Attention Collectors!!!You are bidding on an original hand-written poem, signed by author/artist John Ward Stimson. The poem is titled "The Coming Race" and it is dated July 30, 1911, and signed by the author, John Ward Stimson. It is very possible that this is an unpublished poem by him. I checked a book of his poetry that has over 200 poems in it and "The Coming Race" is not included.

Died June 13, 1930, in Corona, Calif.
Father, Henry Clark Stimson, a banker and railroad president; president of the Peoples Bank in Paterson and of Paterson & Hudson River, Paterson & Ramapo, and Dayton & Union of Ohio railroads, and also active in completion of New York Central to Chicago and of Milwaukee & St. Paul to Minnesota; son of the Rev. Henry Bowen Stimson (honorary MA. Williams 1814) and Rebecca (Pond) Stimson, of Windham, N. Y.
Mother, Julia Maria (Atterbury) Stimson; daughter of Lewis and Catherine (Boudinot) Atterbury, of Baltimore, Md., and New York.
Yale relatives include: John G, Atterbury (B.A. 1831) (uncle), his sons, Charles L Atterbury, '64, and William W Atterbury, '86 S , and his grandson, Grosvenor Atterbury, '91; William W. Prepared under private tutor in New York City First colloquy appointment Junior and Senior years; a Class historian Senior year; illustrator of Tale Naughtical Almanac^ member Brothers in Unity, Delta Kappa, and Psi Upsilon. Studied in the School of the Fine Arts 1872-73; spent next six years in travel and in study of art in France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, and England; graduated from Ecole des Beaux Arts, Pans, 1876 and received a medal for his proficiency; returned to New York in 1879 and for several years combined his painting with illustrating work for various magazines; lectured on art at Princeton 1883-84, director of the art schools of New York Museum of Art 1884-88; then organized the Artist-Artisan Institute in New York and was its director until 1900, during which period he lived at Saranac Lake, N. Y, 1895-1900 and in Montgomery, Ala^ 1900 on account of ill health; in 1901 founded the Art and Science Institute in Trenton, N. J., served as its director until 1903, and later founded the Interlaken Art School m LaPorte, Ind., of which he was also a director; lecturer and instructor at Art Students League, New York, 1906^7; art director at Ruskin College, Florida, 1916-17, an associate editor of the Arena; resided in Nordhoff, Calif, 1901-03 and in Corona since 1915; author: The Gate Beautiful (1903), Principles of Vital Art Education (1892), The Law of the Three Primaries^ Wandering Chords, and To Teach Boys How to Live the New Education; contributor to art periodicals; had lectured widely in this country and Canada and exhibited his paintings in numerous cities, affiliated with Congregational Church, Corona.
Married (1) in 1882, in Metuchen, N. J., Eleanor Elvira Maxson. Children: John Frank, ex-06, and Eleanor Kenyon (B A Wellesley 1906) (Mrs. VanWyck Brooks). Mr. and Mrs Stimson were divorced in 1909.
Married (2) June 16, 1915, in Corona, Mary Rose, daughter of Abraham Bennett and Amanda Clay (Sutherland) Laster. Three daughters, Rosalie Kathleen, Mane Juanita, and Grace Ariel.
Death due to obstructive jaundice.
