    Description

Offered is an interesting letter written in 1922.  It is typed on three pages and has a hand written signature.  It was mailed from Jeff, Kentucky to Carrie and Tina Cornett in Daisy, Kentucky after the untimely death of their mother Bertha.  It is a long letter of consolation, in it the writer quotes many lines from Robert G. Ingersoll's speech "Hope" ~ "The Foundations of Faith" given in 1895 along with portions of his Indianapolis Speech he gave in 1876, combining them rather artfully.  In the letter he states "Some great religious organizer once said" and "I don't know who said these words but I do know he tells a lot of truth with them."  Ingersoll's "I have a dream" echoes still today, reminding one of Martin Luther King, Jr.  It is quite a letter, tied to the history of a tiny Kentucky community.
