Antique Continental Carl Tielsch Oyster Plate, Vivid Color Palette
This antique continental oyster plate has a wonderful color palette, along with a distinctive form. The mold has five oyster wells, a center sauce well, and two additional oval wells for shellfish. The colors of this oyster plate include a striking pink background. Ribbons with gilded accents are between the wells, and there are striped "feathers" and a "turkey head". A nice touch is the very small shells that decorate the center sauce well. The maker was Carl Tielsch Porcelain Manufactory, a well respected 19th century maker of oyster plates and other porcelain. His factory was based in Silesia, which at the time was part of Germany. The company was founded in 1845. This plate was made in the late nineteenth century. On the back of the plate we see the faint mark of Carl Tielsch, an eagle over "CT", as well as two impressed marks. There is a black dot on one of the wells from the making. The diameter is 9.25 inches
