    Description

This is a signed letter from a secretary named
    A
    lice Millar,
written on behalf of the Canadian
    Prime
    Minister R. B. Bennett.
Richard Bedford Bennett, 1st Viscount Bennett
(1870-1947), was a Canadian businessman and
politician who served as the 11th Prime Minister
of Canada, from 1930 to 1935. He led the
Conservative Party from 1927 to 1938.
    Alice Elizabeth Millar
    (1888-1969) was
    R. B. Bennett's personal secretary for
thirty years. She is described by
    Bennett's
    biographer
    P. B. Waite
    in the following way:
“Tall, shrewd and amiable, she had a wry,
whimsical sense of humour. She was
    clever,
    quick,
    sensible, good at finance,
    and completely trustworthy”
The letter is dated November 28, 1935.
It is typed on an 10" by 8" sheet
    of
    Bennett's
    stationery as "
    Leader of the
    Opposition,
    House of Commons, Canada"
    .
The top left corner of the letter has been
    clipped.
    Fortunately, none of the content
    of the letter was
    affected. There is also
a 1.7" tear along a crease. Otherwise, the
letter is in good condition, with creases where
it has been folded, and some general wear.
It is enclosed in a clear plastic sleeve, for protection.
