We offer this original typewritten letter on the letterhead of The New Republic written by Editor Bruce Bliven (1916-2002). The New Republic is an American magazine of commentary on politics, contemporary culture, and the arts. Founded in 1914 by several leaders of the progressive movement. The letter, dated December 11, 1935, is addressed to Mrs. Lucy Mitchell, Springfield, Mass. He is thanking her for sending him a check and his clothes brush "... which I am ashamed to say I did not know I had left at your house". He says that he is "... embarrassed to hear that the Century Club liked my speech." The typed letter on printed letterhead measures 7-1/2 x 10 inches. The autograph is bold and clear.
