WELLCO HI-PALS 1973 VINTAGE HIGH TOP SNEAKERS SUEDE LEATHER 1970s MENS SIZE 8

Description

This rare pair of mens vintage Wellco "Hi-Pals" high-top sneakers have a suede upper, smooth leather inner lining & insole, and Wellco's patented "Process 82" rubber sole. They were made in Waynesville, NC around 1971-1973, marketed as "Boys Rugged Outdoor Shoes Suitable for hiking or rough play in cold or wet weather". Shoes are marked as a size 8M, actual insole measurement is 9.5 inches from heel to toe. Almost more like a boot than a sneaker, they are quite heavy-duty, with styling reminiscent of old bowling shoes. They are in very good used condition, showing minor wear and scuffs in the gray suede, as well as some minor sole wear. They are still ultra-sturdy and seem to have loads of life left in them. I'm not certain if the striped laces are original, but are definitely of the same age as the shoes.
